AquluMax 3-100 As Proppant Surface Modifiers

Description:

AquluMax 3-100 coating is a multifunctional bioinspired polymeric emulsion, designated to be used in modifying the surface of proppants such as frac sand, ceramics proppants, and bauxites for easily pumping during hydraulic fracking stimulation.

Typical Applications:

Proppants coated with AquluMax 3-100 can be used to totally or partially substitute the friction reducer (FR) solution in fresh water from brine to reduce the pipe-friction pressure generated during proppant downhole transportation by pumping; prevent the drilling tools and completion equipment from abrasive damage; and mitigate the risks of worker’s exposure to the microcrystalline silica dust in the processes of handling proppant’s manufacturing and shipping. The product is especially effective for treating 40/70 and 100 mesh proppants. Guideline for mixing of proppants with AquluMax 3-100 emulsion is listed in Table 1.

Table 1. Guideline Recipes and Recommended Batch Quantities in w/w %

Item Component Weight Perc (%) Comments
1 Proppants (frac sand 40/70 and 100 mesh) 100 Recommended
2 AqualuMax 3-100 (Concentration: 5.0%) 2.0 to 3.0

As the FR solution is combined with the coated proppants, the recommended dose used in the recipe of frac fluid solution shall be less than 0.65(%) (gpt) to achieve the synergistic effect and cost saving during fracking operation instead of utilizing the conventional FR solution concentration from 0.20 (%) to 2.0 (%) (gpt).

Benefits:

  • protect friction reducer (FR) from degradation in fluid mixing
  • protect fracking equipment from cavitation and wear-out 60-70%
  • skip the proppant’s drying step
  • save the FR solution usage
  • low pumping pressure by more than 70(%)
  • suppress more than 99.0 (%) of exposed microcrystalline silica dust
  • up to 40(%) EOR increase
  • use less frac water and produced water by controllable water leak-off
  • keep wet proppants from sticking together without a need for drying in proppant plant, terminals, and blending station in all of the fracking operation steps.

Product Typical Properties:

  • Aqueous based white opaque emulsion
  • Specific gravity: 1.02 (g/cc)
  • pH value; 7.80
  • Rheological properties measured by Brookfield viscosity meter between 98 to 700 (cps) @25 0C
  • Conductivity: 600 (mu/cm) @ 25.5 0 C.
  • Contact angle to oil: 27 (degree)
  • Contact angle to water: 60 (degree)
  • Clear-up: mild soap added water.

Storage:

The products should be stored between -10 to 90 0 F and protected from freezing. If the freezing occurs, the products should be warmed to 40 to 90 0 F and agitated prior to subsequent use. The product can be kept for use within six months from the date of sale if the storage conditions are met.

Delivery:

The products will be packed in pail and/or standard totes and can be delivered by truck or per mutual sale’s agreement.

Safety:

General safety conditions shall be met, as required by the occupation safety and Health (OSHA) or other governing bodies, SDS shall be reviewed before applying the coating materials. Care must be exercised when working in close or confined spaces when spraying.

Technical Considerations:

In the case of FR solution concentration is less than 0.065 % (w/w), proppants coated with Aqualub 3-100 become a dominant factor of reducing the coefficient of friction (COF) during the hydraulic fracturing pumping operation.

Also, the AquluMax 3-100 can provide unmatched dust suppression with DR % > 99.0 (%).

In addition, proppants coated with AquluMax 3-100 shows unmatched hydro-dual phobic feature in the probe liquid media. Measured sliding angle occurs as a function of droplet weight in responses to the slipperiness, self-cleanness, and anti-foulness of the modified proppant’s surface. Less micro-caliper pressure is required for proppants coated with AquluMax 3-100 coatings to be pumped in the hydraulic fracturing operation.

VelastMax 3-127 As An Oil Field Additive

Description:

ValastMax 3-127 is an environmentally friendly multifunctional additive blend from colloid hydrogel polymer emulsions, designated to be used in enhancing the viscoelasticity of the friction reducer solution in a high salinity brine environment and transporting proppants into downhole propped rocks and fissures in the hydraulic fracturing operation.

Typical Applications:

VelastMax 3-127 can totally or partially substitute the other friction reducer (FR) solution for reducing pipe-friction pressure generated during proppant transportation by pumping: Prevent the drilling tools and completion equipment from abrasive damage.

The product is especially effective for promoting the viscoelasticity of the frac fluid as it is blended with conventional FR solution or used independently, effective not only in fresh water but also in produced water containing high salinity brine.

Table 2 summarizes a measurement of preliminary test of VelastMax 3-127 under different conditions.
